Squid Game

Seasons 2 & 3 review

I'm going to rate season 2 and 3 together because I feel it actually works better as one complete season instead of two separate seasons.

I think season 2 and 3 hits all the relevant story points. This is a story about the character Gi-Hun. It is a sad story which poses some important questions about ethics and morality in human societies. Seasons 2 and 3 had high internal consistency related to what was established in season 1.

9/10 characters

Even more wonderful characters were introduced in these two seasons and Gi-Hun continues his emotional journey through this nightmare world.

9/10 ambience

The same high quality and recognisable look and feel is continued for these seasons.

9/10 storytelling

The story of Gi-Hun is masterfully told and when he encounters other characters like Il-Nam and In-Ho, these encounters lead to a satisfactory expansion of his story.

10/10 storylines

Even though I feel there was a tiny gap to create an even more impactful story, all the expected story points were completed to a satisfactory level and scope, consistent with what was established in season 1. One could perhaps ask the question, does season 2 and 3 really contribute to the story? What was introduced to uplift the story with season 2 and 3. For me I think that Gi-Hun's story is more complete, thus season 2 and 3 does indeed have value.

9/10 themes and ideas

The themes and ideas continue in a similar way as it was presented in season 1. Somehow I wonder if a little more could have been said by the writer about these things, but I believe the writer is satisfied with what is conveyed through all the seasons.

This series, season 2 and 3, scores 92%.
